Entry 1: Bad
Dear Journal,
My name is Marco Polo and I am researching the Mongols for my trip to China. I have learned of their conquests and their way of life. It is no doubt that the Mongols are skilled in conquering but is it right to kill entire populations while doing so. If a civilization did not give in they would kill everyone without thinking. I was told that each Mongol would have to kill a certain amount of people no matter if they were a man, woman, or child.  There was so much fear in civilizations of impending Mongol attacks that people would immediately accept defeat and Mongol control. The Mongols are blood-thirsty killers with no regard for human life.
When researching their government I learned that the Chinese were kept out of high offices. Also that the Mongols and the Chinese are separated and have different laws and taxes.  If their so great then why would they do so much to show the different cultures or only allow high offices to Mongolians.

Entry 2: Good
Dear Journal,
My name is Marco Polo and I have just arrived home to Venice from the beautiful country of China. Right away you noticed the blending and acceptance of culture. As learned on my journey the Mongols did conquer many people but they didn't force their ideas on that civilization. The Mongols shared some characteristics of Alexander the Great's empire in how they conquered a country and then let them be. Kublai Khan has done an acceptionable job of taking aspects of other cultures and integrating them into his empire.
The vast empire under control of Kublai Khan is impressive by itself but how they connected was even more amazing. The Mongols managed to connect both East and West through the caravan routes. New innovations have made its way to Europe through the caravan routes made by Ghengis Khan.

Entry 3: Current
Dear Journal,
The Mongols were a peaceful people who often only get credited for the people they killed. Even though some historians believe the Mongols opprssiveness towards the Russians is what casued their backwards development. I feel as though the mongols weren't the cause but Russia itself. By connecting East and West the Mongols brought ideas from China to Europe and so on. Though they aren't commonly credited for the good things they did, the Mongols can be credited for several things still in use today. Things such as spaghetti, the magnetic compass, and printing. As you know the Mongols had excellent military strategies which still help us today. The Mongol people were excellent on horse-back and their invention of gunpowder can definitely be seen today.
